How Can You Open Your Heart?
As the saying goes, “the greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.” But what does this really mean? Love is such an intricate business in all its manifestations: love of a spouse or romantic partner; love of family; love of friends; love of colleagues and role models; and, of course, love of self. We are told that love is the essence of a fulfilling life, our very reason for being alive. But how do we learn the art of loving, as psychologist Erich Fromm described it? What is the larger meaning of love? Is love a spiritual practice? What is the relationship between love and desire?
Mark Matousek tells us that “love is not a problem to be solved, but a wonder to be experienced, a wilderness to be explored.” He asks us: How can we open our hearts without fear? How can we learn to live with the wounds of love with forgiveness, acceptance, and patience?
We all know that love is the supreme value, yet relationships are the source of some of our greatest suffering. The lessons and questions in The Mystery of Love are among the most important that you can ask, and exploring them is the door to building and maintaining deeper, healthier connections. This course is a nine-week journey of the heart that will help you do just that.
